As you might imagine, the faculty of the Baker Institute and the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine receive a large number of requests for clinical and/or diagnostic information. Unfortunately, we are not staffed to provide medical information or assistance on an individual basis.

Obtaining a second opinion, from another veterinary hospital, or college of veterinary medicine closest to you, is a good idea if you are uncomfortable with your veterinarian’s recommendations for treatment.

In addition, the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine offers these services that you may find useful:

You can reach the college’s veterinary library and learning resources center via e-mail at veterinary_library@cornell.edu, or by telephone at 1-607-253-3510. The library will conduct literature searches on veterinary topics for a nominal fee.

Some people choose to bring their animals to Cornell University Hospital for Animals here in Ithaca, even if it means traveling some distance. Please call the admissions office of our Companion Animal Hospital at 607-253-3060, or our Equine and Farm Animal Hospital at 607-253-3100 weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) to schedule an appointment. Although our veterinary professionals prefer to examine animals in person, in special cases they may conduct telephone consultations, veterinarian-to-veterinarian only. Only veterinarians may arrange consultations. To do so, your veterinarian may call one of the above numbers.

Consultant, a diagnostic information resource available via the Vet College’s web site, provides summaries of recent literature about specific animal health problems. Consultant also allows you to ask general questions, via e-mail, of a doctor of veterinary medicine. This service is accessible at http://www.vet.cornell.edu .

The Cornell University Feline Health Center operates a medical information “hotline” available to both practicing veterinarians and pet owners at 1-800-548-8937. Please note there may be a charge for consulting with them.

You can also find other general information on the college’s World Wide Web site at http://www.vet.cornell.edu .
